The problem it prevents

A red tag on the panel stops the whole job.

The panel is a small line item and a large schedule risk. When it fails inspection, nothing else on the parking scope can be energised, tested or turned over — and the fix usually means opening the enclosure on site, which is slower and more expensive than building it correctly the first time. The most common causes are an undocumented short-circuit current rating, components that are not UL Recognized or Listed for the application, and spacing or wiring that does not meet the construction requirements.

A certified shop removes that category of risk, because the assembly is built and inspected against the standard before it leaves the building.

Certification is binary. A panel either meets the standard or it does not — there is no exceeding it. Any supplier who says otherwise is describing marketing, not compliance.

Stages three and five of our process.

  1. Engineer

    Control narrative, single-line diagrams and I/O lists are agreed before anything is procured. This is where SCCR and enclosure rating get decided.

  2. Build

    The panel is fabricated in our shop alongside the steel, so the two are coordinated rather than reconciled on site.

  3. Test

    Factory Acceptance Testing exercises the panel with the control logic loaded. Problems surface in our building.

  4. Support

    Secure remote diagnostics after handover, and controls replacement when the equipment ages.

Who builds them

Applied Gray Matter

Our panels are fabricated by our sister company, a UL 508A certified panel shop with a UL 508A MTR on staff. Their Director of Engineering holds UL 508A MTR, NFPA 70 and IPC J-STD-001 certifications and has more than twenty years in electronic and electro-mechanical systems design.

Outside parking, the same shop serves industrial controls, arc flash studies, PCB design, and data center and AI facility controls.
